Had enough calling out friends for a jump start as the car is an automatic. Back to GS rubbish bad but cheap…. Thank you.. Thanks for the advise.. I bought a MF battery and is has lasted me only just exactly 2 years.. Acid previously I used acid battery and it took me 4yrs…i nkw go back to my old school battery. I have cleaned with soda and water, plastered terminals with grease or petroleum jel.
I have to brush and clean terminals. Green and red felt washers…no help. Red battery terminal spray, no help. Good day, just wanna ask if MF battery Fill with distilled water will work again? It has a 6 holes ready for refill.
Typically we only refill every months. After I experience with a lousy MF battery, I am using back old school car battery. All I need is just top up the distilled water every 6 months and it last me couple years! If you want to make it live longer you need to drill the top with 6 holes find suitable caps and fill each battery cell with distil water.
It also allows for the recombination of the released hydrogen and oxygen gas back into water in a process called oxygen recombination cycle.
Additionally, the new battery is also sealed except for a small vent hole. This means that water loss is very insignificant hence no need to refill. In short, you fix it and forget it. We cannot deny that traditional vented batteries are indeed powerful and useful. However, users still must deal with electrolyte spill offs sulfuric acid and water that can eat away clothes and skin on contact.
The battery terminals also get corroded by leaked acid in the case of overfilling, overcharging or rough battery handling; an expected occurrence for most drivers. Creativity has never lacked amongst Kenyans and many have resorted to making concoctions out of baking soda to clean the terminals. Others are going to the extent of putting copper coins near the lead terminals with the hope of saving them from corrosion copper is corroded first before lead.
The first MF battery was produced in and as the name suggests, it does not require extra service when in use. Maintenance free batteries are an improvement over the old technology. Additionally, by incorporating a calcium alloy into the make-up of the battery grid, this modern design is more resistant to corrosion, vibration damage and with a lesser rate of self-discharge.
The calcium alloy also has less internal resistance thus delivering higher current to users. MF batteries are completely sealed and do not require any topping up of de-ionized water. Locally, the maintenance free battery was adopted and implemented by Chloride Exide Limited, the largest battery manufacturer in East and Central Africa. The Chloride Exide Powerlast MF battery was developed to eliminate the pain points experienced by car owners in order to give you a hassle free driving experience.
Powerlast MF batteries have minimal loss of water during the service life hence no need of topping up during its entire life. This is because the liquids inside will start to boil, and the battery will become hot.
As a result, it might start melting or even swelling. A maintenance-free battery has lead and calcium terminals, which reduce the chance of overcharging. This is also what allows the oxygen recombination cycle to happen.
While overcharging can cause this to happen, other factors may contribute to overheating as well. This prevents an excess of both pressure and heat from building up through the use of an intricate ventilation process. There are also Rapid Cool Down Separators, which help maintain an optimal temperature for the battery. These are completely sealed, except for a tiny hole used as a vent.
So again, the water loss will be negligible. As a result, maintenance-free batteries will last for much longer than traditional car batteries. When the weather gets colder, it can become more difficult and longer to start up your vehicle.
Struggling to properly start up your car can lead to inconvenient issues, such as getting to school or work late. This type of battery has superior cranking and high reserve capacity.
What this means for you is higher cold cranking startup. As you can see, a maintenance-free battery has so many benefits to drivers. Maintenance-free batteries also last longer than traditional car batteries, as they use state-of-the-art technology to avoid overheating and corrosion.
