I think a 6" difference in width between opening and fridge can only be fixed with 3" filler strips on either side. It's not enough of a difference to fit a spice rack or something unless you didn't center the fridge in the opening, which would be weird.

Built in is just that, bolted to the wall and integrated in with your cabinets. For your situation, counter depth for sure. I had the FP wager and dryer. The washer was repaired five times in the first year and finally replaced by the company. What a hassle. My sister had their dishwasher drawers. They too were repaired several times.
