Yes, it smells funny but does not transfer smell. Do NOT use with water. Not a sponge! If you just want a quick swipe of your shirt or slacks it works ok. I wouldn't recommend trying to clean furniture or even stair runners with it. Its just a rubber sponge and does not really clean the hair up, it just wipes it off as in the hair will be still floating around.
Some hair does stick to the sponge but mostly not. We have 6 cats and 1 dog and this Pet Hair Lifter really works on furniture to remove fur the vacuum leaves behind. This is fantastic! I have a Maine Coon kitty adopted who has fur like spiderwebs. With one swipe with my Gonzo, the cat hair is wiped away. I cannot recommend this highly enough! It looks like a piece of a gym mat.
