Of course, one of the most intriguing curiosities, though, is the evolving relationship between androids, and their human makers, and our progenitors. How much of the Engineers fans can expect in Alien: Covenant or in the franchise entirely is still somewhat unclear. Predator: Requiem. However, Prometheus brought the giant race back in a big way, as fans finally get to meet the Engineers. In fact during Prometheus , they were hell-bent on taking out their pink, fleshy offspring with their liquid biological weapon.
It definitely looks like the mysterious race of titans will play a further role in the Prometheus trilogy to come, according to Ridley Scott, who told Deadline :. If Engineers are the forerunners of us, and therefore were creators of life forms in places that were possible for biology to function, who created that? Where's the big boy? You think this was all an accident?
I don't know. Even Stephen Hawking now says he's not sure. He no longer believes in the big bang. If the architect of the Alien franchise is to be believed, fans will get another taste of the massive proto-humans. It seems that Dr. However, the film will likely focus on the actions of the eponymous colony ship and, to a lesser degree, the mega-corporation who funded it. Beginning life as two separate, multinational corporate competitors, the Weyland and Yutani Corporations both developed similar paths along the commercial spacing, weapons, tech, and bio-synthetic lines.
Not long after the fateful mission, the massive corporation staged a hostile takeover of competitor Yutani, laying the foundations for the massive conglomerate and its major role in the franchise. Many different species who want nothing more than to infect another biological life form live in the goo, but the goo itself is also able to cause mutations.
The survivors of the Prometheus went off to find the Engineers at the end of the film. Weyland failed, and he and entire crew of Prometheus were killed, except for Elizabeth Shaw Noomi Rapace and the severely damaged android, David Michael Fassender — whom, by the way, Weyland himself created. Not until the closing moments of Prometheus did we even understand how the events from the film tied into the Alien universe.
David, an android with mysterious motivations, inexplicably infects shipmate Charlie Logan Marshall-Green with a small drop of the black goo in his drink it seems David, an artificial creation, has an interest in becoming a creator himself. After Charlie makes love to his wife Elizabeth, he unknowingly passes on an infection of a squid-like alien. In a horrifically memorable scene, Elizabeth is forced to have an automated Cesarean section to remove it without anesthesia.
Why The Engineers would choose to create and then destroy humanity is never fully revealed - although it can be intuited, when compared to a line that David delivers - "Who doesn't want to kill their father? Faced with the threat of planetary annihilation, the Prometheus flight crew pilots the ship into the escaping Engineer ship - sending it crashing to the ground - sparing only Shaw and David.
With the threat neutralized, Shaw attempts to pilot the ship's lifeboat but is horrified to discover that her fetus has grown into a person-sized beast.
Just as she retreats, the surviving Engineer arrives in an attempt to finish-off Shaw and is snatched by the mutated creature's tentacles. As Shaw runs off, the creature forces one of its tentacles down the Engineer's throat and wraps its body around his struggling body - before the alien pair collapse and fall silent. In a pre -credits scene, the lifeless body of The Engineer is shown flailing around - as an adolescent alien queen-like life form erupts from his chest, splitting his body in two.
It's a set up that is further clarified when David tells Shaw that they can still escape the planet, since the Engineer's crashed ship is only one of many, meaning that the Queen's progeny could have easily encountered other surviving Engineers who were still preserved inside their ships on the moon - or might have come into contact with Engineers who later visited LV to investigate the Prometheus event or collect more of the weaponized mutagen. One of these unfortunate travelers could then become the Alien "Space Jockey" - who dies in his pilot chair and crashes on LV after a xenomorph bursts from his chest and presumably lays the facehugger eggs that Executive Officer Kane John Hurt encounters in Alien.
However, it's also entirely possible that the films are, as hinted at earlier, only loosely connected and the impregnation of Shaw is merely a detour in the mutagen's journey to its final xenomorph form instead of an entirely unique mutation - especially considering a massive carving, depicting a xenomorph-like creature, is plastered on the mutagen storage room wall.
Assuming this theory, it's sill unclear whether The Engineers developed the mutagen or harnessed it from an existing and ancient xenomorph population - meaning, in addition to the possibility that more xenomorph-producing mutagen stockpiles could exist elsewhere, there might also be naturally occurring native colonies of the creatures somewhere in space.
